How to troubleshoot the “NTLDR Is Missing” error message in Windows

If your computer’s NTLDR files are damaged by a virus or other problem on your computer, it will no longer boot properly. Instead, a message appears stating that the NTLDR is missing. To resolve this problem, you must reload the NTLDR files from your Windows XP installation disc back onto your computer.

XP Operating System Installation CD..

How-To:

1. Put your Windows XP CD into your computer and restart it.


2. Press any key when prompted by the message on the screen, then press the “R” key at the setup welcome screen.


3. Type “1″ into the Recovery Console then press “Enter.”


4. Type “copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\” and press “Enter” then type “copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\” and press “Enter.” These two commands copy the NTLDR files from the CD to your computer,


5. Type “exit,” restart your computer and eject the Windows XP CD.
